Subtledata was founded in July 2011 by Richard Bagdonas (CTO). The company has received a total funding of $500K through investors Joshua Baer, Mellie Price, Bryan Menell, Jon Armstrong, Insikt Ventures and Emerge. Subtledata is headquartered in Austin, Texas and employs 6 – 10 persons. More than 100 developers signed up for their platform pre-launch.
SubtleData designs, develops, and manages APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that connect mobile devices to the majority of existing POS systems in a platform-as-a-service environment.

The company says apps powered with SubtleData integration can manage loyalty services, handle payments and complete web orders etc. Companies benefit from improved analytics while users get access to anything with just a click of a button on their smartphone.
“One of the things our platform does is, for the first time in hospitality, we actually allow the disintermediation of the order from the payment,” said CEO Bryan Menell. “We can actually route payments through other methods. And still settle it back on that point of sale system, along with any other sort of tender types.” He says that with SubtleData integrated in their apps, businesses will be able to understand a lot more about their customers. Apps powered by SubtleData will know when a client comes in contact with the location and store his or her order history after purchase: an advancement that allows for customized reward programs.
On 10th January 2013, Subtledata entered into an agreement with Motion Computing to join their MVP (Motion Valued Partner) program. “In today’s digital age, consumers are more connected than ever – and more apt to move on if their needs are not immediately met,” Peter Poulin, V.P of marketing at Motion Computing had said. “In a store environment, consumers are less likely to wait for employees to look up information or check inventory when they can easily access the same information at their convenience.
